LAI

The GLASS Leaf Area Index (LAI) product, a global LAI product with long time series, generated and released by the Center for Global Change Data Processing and Analysis of Beijing Normal University (http://www.bnu-datacenter.com/). The GLASS LAI product has a temporal resolution of 8 days and is available from 1982 to 2012. The GLASS LAI product is archived in HDF-EOS format.

From 1982 to 1999, the LAI product was generated from AVHRR reflectance. It is provided in a geographic projection at the resolution of 0.05°. From 2000 to 2012, the LAI product is derived from MODIS land surface reflectance (MOD09A1). It is provided in an Integerized Sinusoidal (ISIN) projection at the resolution of 1 km for each of the 289 land tiles (representing 1200 x 1200 pixels on the Earth) on the globe.

Based on the above basic data product, 0.05° spatial resolution products from 1982 to 2012 in the geographic projection of the Climate Modeling Grid (CMG) are produced to meet the needs of global change and climate studies. And the inter-comparison of GLASS LAI product and other existing operational global LAI products, including MODIS, CYCLOPES, indicate that the GLASS LAI product is the most spatially complete, and temporally continuous.
